Tip #: Feed Your Baby
Right before the shoot starts, feed your baby! And if he/she starts fussing during the shoot, feed them then too. Normally I try super hard to not nurse my babies to sleep but in this case, totally nurse your baby to sleep . When we took Anabelle’s newborn photos she was hungry, and I just tried to push through it because I didn’t want to inconvenience our photographer. Make sure you ask your photographer ahead of time if he/she is okay with you taking a small break in the middle of the shoot to feed if you need to.

The Exceptions: Twins Multiplets And Preemies
Premature babies, twins, and multiples all tend to be a bit smaller than babies that are born without multiples and are carried to full-term. They also might require a longer hospital stay at the beginning until theyre further along in their development.
In these cases, the window of time for capturing the perfect newborn photo is likely a bit longer. You will probably be able to get the types of shots youre looking for up to the 5-week mark.

You Baby Isnt Too Old For Photos
If your newborn is already past the recommended 14 21 days old, dont panic.
Older babies can be photographed too and their photos are just as special. Although your baby may have outgrown my props but we can always work around that. So dont worry if your baby is a little older than the ideal age. The MOST important thing for parents is to have photos. And I am always happy to make that happen.

The Best Age For Newborn Photos: 7
If you are interested in getting professional baby photos of your newborn, you will definitely want to book this session before your baby has been born. This way, you can be sure that you have an appointment with your favorite photographer during this brief window of time.
When newborns are this young, they have more predictable sleeping schedules, enjoy tighter swaddling, and are more flexible. The newborn pictures youve likely seen online are often of babies in this womb-like state, which makes them the ideal candidate for beautiful, swaddled shots.
This is also typically when your babys skin will be the softest and clearest, as it is common for newborns to develop baby acne around week three.

Tip #: Give Yourself An Extra Hour To Get Ready
Trust me when I say that there are just way too many things that can come up when you have a needy newborn, and even more so when you have more kids! Get ready with an hour to spare, so that if someone has a desperate emergency crying, screaming, tantrum-throwing need, you still have time to put some makeup on or curl your hair. You’ll be so sad if you don’t give yourself this time!
Where Possible Babies Younger Than 14 Days
Typically, we recommend scheduling your newborn baby photo shoot about 10 days after your due date. Once bub is born we then lock in a date and time for your newborn session.
7 to 10 days is our ideal age for a newborn portrait session as babies this age are pretty chilled, sleep most of the time and curl up easily in those gorgeous poses. While newborn smiles are not conscious yet, as new babies fall asleep they tend to grimace and pull faces that look just like a grin! Once bub hits two weeks old they tend to be more alert, and outgrow that fragile newborn look.
This age is great for capturing snuggles with parents, photos of baby feeding and close up shots of babys eyelashes, lips and feet. Its also a wonderful time to capture some beautiful photos of baby with their siblings.
A de lumière photographer will come to you at home for your newborn baby photo shoot, this means that even if your bub is a little older than two weeks, we can still achieve gorgeous portraits. We blend a mix of lifestyle photography with a newborn portrait session, so we cater for all ages of babies.
If you have your heart set on those gorgeous curled up shots, then capturing baby within the first 14 days are imperative.

How About The Age Of 4+ Weeks
We are talking here 4-6 weeks. This is where things might start to get a bit more tricky. If babies have arrived on the due date or past due date, chances are that photo session might be quiet awake. It all depends on what would be your expectations here. If you are after sleepy, moulding poses, I would say it will be 50/50 that we will have them, but if you are after some awake photos and simply beautiful newborn photography with parents, the perfect age for this.
6 weeks would be kind of my cut off stage what I would be calling newborn photography stage. The next stage when I would say you have a good chance of posed newborn photos would be around 12 weeks when babies roll on their tummies.
If you are after more lifestyle natural baby photography then stage between 6-12 is perfect for that. You can see here home session I did with 7 weeks baby.
Hope this post has calmed you down a bit and there should be not so much worry of perfect age for newborn photos now. I would say the perfect time is when you and baby are ready for it. It all depends on what are your goals from this session and how you would like your photos to look like.

Whats The Secret To Newborn Photography
Let me fill you in on a little secret. Newborn babies LOVE to be wrapped. Even those little escape-artists who love to wave their little arms around! And once your baby is securely wrapped and all snuggled up in one of my many varieties of coloured wraps, your baby will slowly drift off to sleep. This trick is particularly useful when photographing older babies.
I also make sure the studio is at a temperature your baby will love. Because remember, it wasnt that long ago they were toasty warm inside your tummy. So while your baby is nice and settled, snoozing away and dreaming of food, we can get all those adorable curly poses. I also have an app which plays white noise in the background. It has such a calming effect it has even put the Dads to sleep!

Know Your Budget Ahead Of Time
Different photographers will have different prices for their work, so do your research ahead of time. Know how much you are willing to spend and figure out a package or session that works for you. Consider the time youll spend at the shoot, how many photos youll get, and any other extras youd be paying for when working out your price.
Exceptions To The Two
There are a few rare exceptions that you should keep in mind when it comes to newborn photography. For example, you may want to wait to have a photoshoot with a baby born prematurely. This is because the baby may be too small for a proper infant photography shoot, making it better to wait until after the two-week mark.
Twins and other multiplets should also wait a bit before their photo session for the same reason. Because there is less space when more than one baby is born, they may come out slightly underdeveloped, which makes it better to take photos later on.

Can I Schedule A Newborn Photo Session At My Home
My home studio is specifically designed for newborn sessions. Thats why, considering time and practicality, it will cost both of us a lot more to set up and photograph in your home. Also, you would have a lot less flexibility with prop choices and lighting. Photography being taken in a dedicated studio will provide you with a a better result.
Week 9 To 4 Months: Skip It Altogether
What to expect: You can expect most newborn photographers to say, hold out a little longer and well see you in Month 4 to Month 6. The reason being that your baby is too big and awake for the newborn look, but still doesnt hold his/her head nor sits by his/herself. This complicates things a little for us photographers, thats why we suggest waiting to book a professional session for a little later.
Youll capture plenty of memorable photos on your own during this time, and I recommend with pride.

Be Flexible When Photographing Newborns
An important tip for any newborn shoot is to be flexible. Maybe this goes without saying, but the shoot might not go as planned. Sometimes babies will refuse to cooperate and will show you who is really in charge . But if a baby fidgets and refuses to sleep, don’t lose your cool and keep shooting. Many times the best images will come from unplanned and organic moments.
Avoid Bright Strobes With Babies
Baby-Safe lighting is the name of the game. Most professionals use only natural lighting. This look matches the mood of the images well. With some beautiful filtered light, you can do wonders. In a studio session, you can use speed lights and strobes, but they must be external. Bounce the light or use large diffusers to make it as mellow as possible. Never use pop-up flashes or on-camera setups. Newborns’ eyes are sensitive, and if they’re sleeping, you don’t want to wake them.

Just 15 days before his arrest, Bryan Kohberger and his father were driving home from Washington State University for winter break to the family’s home in Pennsylvania.
OFFICER : Hello
MICHAEL KOHBERGER: How you doing?
OFFICER: How ya’ll doin today?
The journey interrupted by two traffic stops, almost 10 minutes apart, in Indiana for tailgating.
MICHAEL KOHBERGER : We’re gonna be going to Pennsylvania, a couple more miles.
OFFICER: Oh, OK.
MICHAEL KOHBERGER: to the Pocono Mountains. We’re a little, we’re slightly punchy. We’ve been driving for hours.
Police body cam video shows Kohberger and his father talking calmly with an officer about the trip.
OFFICER: Hours? And days?
MICHAEL KOHBERGER: Hours. Well, we’ve been driving for almost a day.
OFFICER: Do me a favor and don’t follow too close, OK?
Then they are released with a warning.
Kohberger had been at the university since August, studying to get his Ph.D. in criminology. He was also a teaching assistant in the Department of Criminal Justice. He lived in an apartment complex on campus and had an office there.
According to the newly released affidavit, Kohberger had applied for an internship with the Pullman Police Department in the fall. He wrote in his application essay that “he had interest in assisting rural law enforcement agencies with how to better collect and analyze technological data.”
Benjamin Roberts took four classes with Kohberger.
He says Kohberger appeared highly intelligent.

We recommend booking your newborn session well before baby even arrives. Trust me, once your little one is here, youre going to want to soak in every moment. That is not the time to spend researching a photographer. Researching a photographer at that time is likely to feel overwhelming and possibly not happen at all. Itll feel good to check this off your to-do list before baby comes. And not only that, but you can also have confidence in the photographer youve chosen and possibly have had a chance to do a maternity session.
This way, the only thing you have to do is send us a quick message that your little one has arrived. Then we will get you scheduled and take care of the rest!

Is Two Weeks Too Old For Newborn Photos No Way
For some families, there are even a few benefits to waiting. Birth can be an intense event for everybody. Some parents know that they want photos right away so they can include birth details and meeting family. But lots of other families I photograph decide to wait a few weeks for their newborn photos.
There isnt a right answer, and every photographer will tell you something different. For my newborn photography sessions though, I let parents know that anywhere from 24 hours to four weeks old is considered newborn photos in my books!

So I thought to cover this query through this post. As a photography style definition of newborn photoshoot , the best time for a newborn photoshoot is between 15 to 30 days old. But dont be disheartned if you cant plan for your newborn photoshoot that early, then you still have time till 2-3 months of your baby to get a baby photoshoot, which is just slightly different then newborn photoshoot. A baby photoshoot covers photo session a bit differently in terms of posing as the baby grows a bit and few of the specific newborn poses cant be done as the baby doesnt swaddle anymore.
