How Many Diapers Do I Need In Size Five

How Many Diapers Will Your Newborn Need

Size five is where people in my survey started to drop off and say their kids weren’t ever in them before they were potty trained.

If your child is over the age of two, though, I would imagine they would be in size five at some point.

I don’t know that I’d worry about stocking up on these too much at first unless you are starting to feel like size four are getting tight and potty training is not on the horizon, you can start looking for deals.

For the people who did use them, it was typically for 6-12 months . I would say 3-4 a day at this point, so maybe 540 for a six month supply of size five.

Not Suitable For All Skin Types

If your baby has very sensitive skin, eczema, or other skin conditions, you might have trouble finding the right product for your baby.

While there are wipes that have natural and very few ingredients, there are times when they can still react poorly to your childs skin.

You might be better off trying alternative cleaning methods instead.

How Many Baby Wipes Do I Need

This is also a big expense, as youll be using a lot of wipes during the diaper wearing months and years. It really helps to buy large quantities to cut down on price. Youll likely use 2-3 at every diaper change and way more for those extra crazy poops that seem to travel up and around every single nook and cranny. So for a newborn, plan on using a 150 pack per week. Trust us, you dont ever want to be caught without wipes at the ready. Go with the 500+ pack or multi-pack boxes and save on cost and packaging waste.

How Should A Diaper Fit

According to Dr. Brandon Smith, general academic pediatrics fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, there are two measurements parents and caregivers can use when trying to make heads or tails of baby diaper sizes: the size on the box and the size of the baby.

Each diaper brand may have slightly different sizing than other brands, so its important to always refer to the size chart on the package youre using to ensure proper fit, explains Smith, adding that, while properly fitting diapers shouldnt cause any issues for baby, there are telltale signs that a diaper isnt fitting correctly. Irritation on the childs skin, leakage or a portion of the babys bottom being exposed in the back are all signs a child may need a different diaper size, Smith notes.

Why Do Leaks And Blowouts Happen

How Many Diapers Do I Need?
  • If a diaper is too small, it can leak because there isnât enough absorbency for the volume of pee or poop.

  • If the leg cuffs donât fit properly or are tucked insider the diaper, pee can leak out the sides.

  • If a diaper is too big, urine and poop may leak out of the gaps before the diaper can absorb it.

How Much Can You Spend On Diapers

This question is very hard to answer because again there are so many factors that can affect the price of diapers such as:

  • Prices fluctuate all of the time

These are just a few factors that affect the price of diapers. And in the end, it counts down to YOU.

How much are you willing to pay and what can your family afford?

If I was to choose Pampers as an example since they are sure popular and for one the diapers I recommend, pediatricians, and many other moms.

Pampers alone come in many different quantities and they sell them in many different stores for a slightly different price.

For the sake of the example if you buy a box of Pamper Swaddlers newborn size 84 count.

You could spend approximately $25. Well with twins you can go through that many diapers in a week or less.

So you do the math

In a month you could spend around $100 give or take.

So depending on your twins it could be more or it could be less.

Thats why when people ask me how much money I can spend on diapers is very hard to respond.

Because it depends on many factors mentioned above plus how often youre needing to change your twins diapers.

Consider maybe $25-50 a week for diapers.

This is a huge range but again think about the different factors that can affect that price.

This is why starting a budget and saving money ASAP is crucial.

Which Pampers Diaper Is Best For My Baby

As your baby grows, he’ll have different diaper needs. Here are some things to consider when choosing which Pampers diaper to buy:

Newborns:

Newborns have very delicate skin, so choose a diaper that’s:

  • super absorbent to keep your baby’s skin dry

  • designed so it doesn’t rub against the umbilical cord stump

  • easy to put on and fasten.

Consider Pampers Swaddlers, Swaddlers Sensitive, or Pampers Pure Protection at this stage.

Growing Babies:

Dryness will be your biggest focus when your little one is around 6 to 12 months old. Consider Pampers Baby-Dry or Pampers Cruisers.

On-the-Go Babies:

When your little one is wiggling a lot, crawling, or beginning to walk, consider diapers that are easier to take off quickly. For example, you might like Pampers Cruisers 360° Fit or Pampers Easy Ups.

This chart summarizes the sizes that each Pampers diaper is available in to help you select the right one:

How Many Diapers Per Size

So Im all about stocking up and being prepared especially with two babies.

I would suggest sticking with Newborn to 1 size diapers first because youre twins are going to spend a big chunk of time wearing those sizes.

As far as how many diapers you will need from each size it depends on the twin.

Whether or not they are both on the same diaper size, what type of diapers you buy, how many come in a box, etc.

It also depends on how organized you are about keeping receipts in case you need to return and/or exchange extra diapers.

Some Ways To Determine When Your Babies Are Ready For The Next Size

How Many Diapers Does Baby Need? | The First Year
  • How tight is the diaper? Does every time you use that diaper on your twins do they have marks or you see red spots that the diapers leave behind?. Then maybe its time to try the next size.
  • The diaper is not covering all of the twins bottoms
  • The diaper is leaking through even when the diapers arent even full

If you see some of these signs mentioned above it might be time to move your little one to the next size.

Keep in mind that one of your twins might be ready for the next size while the other isnt.

Thats ok.

Dont force your twins to stay in the same diaper size to save money.

This can actually end up causing you more money. Because youre forcing one of your twins to wear diapers that are too small for them.

This can end up causing unnecesary leaking which can lead to more diaper changes.

More/unnecessary diaper changes = more money down the toilet.

Hopefully, youve already made the decisive disposable or cloth diaper choice. If you havent, youll need to plan for this. You simply cannot stockpile what you havent yet decided youll use.

Parents who chose to use disposable diapers quickly understand how a baby can go through about 3,000 disposables in their first year alone. Experienced parents may already have loyalty to one brand, but for first-time parents, the many options are eye-opening.

People will often give the gift of newborn diapers at baby showers, though most newborns gain about 3 pounds during the first month and babies born with a higher birth weight tend to skip this diaper size altogether.

Remember: You can register for different sizes, but make sure you have enough storage space to accommodate them. If your free space is limited, dont stock up on more than two sizes at once, or ask for gift cards instead.

To stock up on disposable diapers, you can use the following chart as a guide. Keep in mind that all babies are different, and these numbers are just an estimate to help you prepare.

Stocking Up On Newborn Diapers

When theres a baby on the way, being as prepared as possible is likely one of your biggest goals. So if youre in the process of registering for baby items and youre wondering, how many diapers do I need?, our advice is to go light on newborn-sized diapers and instead register for more size one, two and three options. While babies may need slightly fewer diaper changes each day once they hit the larger sizes, they tend to stay in these bigger fits for longer some babies can wear a size-three diaper up to their first birthday.

Store Specific Diaper Offers

Stores like Target and Walmart have store-brand diapers that compare favorably price-wise with national brands. Ive also heard of some parents with twins going to a Target to purchase because theyll get the Target credit card, where you can get a percentage back on your purchases in the store, and so that makes the diapers even that much cheaper.

Baby Diapers: How much do they cost? [Newborn Essentials]

How many size 3 diapers do I need? Babies who wear size 3 diapers are between 16-28 pounds. At this point, growth may slow to 1 1.5 pounds per month.

Although you may be tempted to stick with one-size diapers, it is nearly impossible to do so especially when your baby has proceeded from feeding every few hours to going 3 to 4 hours between feeds. Your child may begin potty training at this point.

So, How many size 3 diapers do I need? is a tough question to answer as there are a lot of variables. One estimate is that a baby will need around 6 diaper changes a day. Based on a 30 day month, the number of size 3 diapers may be around 180 per month.

How Many Diapers For The First Year

Before you welcome your little one to his/her new home, you should already have a fair share of diapers on-the-go. Let us take you through how this will work out in your babys first few years.

  • Infants: Newborns typically need six to nine diaper changes a day. Hopefully, youll get to start stockpiling newborn diapers as gifts from your baby shower. Which means that in just their first week, youll be needing roughly 70 to 100 pieces of diapers for you baby.
  • One-year-old: You also have to prepare for around 2,000 to 3,000 pieces of diapers for your babys first year.
  • One year and above: But as your baby grows older, youll be happy to know that this number will decrease in time and you wont have to deal with these many wet and messy nappies in the years to come.

At this point, you should have also already decided whether youll be using disposable or cloth diapers as this will also depend on how many youll be stocking up with.

For cloth diapers, you get to at least purchase fewer pieces but the safest number would be around 20 newborn cloth diapers. Although even with a tonne stored up at home, expect to do a lot of constant laundering within a week.

As for disposable diapers, if youre still trying out new diaper brands for your baby, you dont necessarily have to bulk buy the first diaper brand you choose.

Which brings us to the inevitable question of: whether to buy disposable or cloth diapers. Let us show you how you can make that choice for your little one.

Ways To Save On Diapers

Rest assured that there are ways to save money on diapers to ease the burden on your wallet even in the early newborn days. Below, weve added some helpful tips for saving money on diapers.

  • Register for diapers. The best way to cut down on your diaper expenses in the first year? Add them to your registry! This is the best time to receive diapers as a gift, since you may have lots of friends and loved ones who are eager to help you get started.
  • Choose a generic brand. Choosing a store brand or warehouse alternative is a way to get the job done on the cheap, with unit prices around $0.20 or below.
  • Try cloth diapering. Based on an average disposable diaper cost and a high average cloth diaper cost, a family can expect to save around $1,575 per child, Duffy says. Even better, those same diapers can usually be reused on your next child, so diapering will cost you nothing for that baby.
  • Get a subscription. Dont want to even think about buying diapers? Take this chore off your list by choosing a subscription service. Better yet, when you get diapers from brands like Honest or Coterie delivered straight to your door, youll generally spend less per unit.

How To Stockpile Disposable Diapers

How many Diaper do I need?

To help you build up a big diaper stash before your due date, here are tips on everything from how many to register for to how to figure out what size diapers youll need for each stage.

Tip #1: Dont focus on the newborn size

On average, a newborn diaper fits babies up to 9 pounds. Take into account that a newborn will often gain up to three pounds in their first month of life. And most hospitals will send you home with an armful of newborn diapers, so you most likely wont need to buy a lot.

Although newborn diapers are the most common size people typically gift at showers, you probably dont need to register for more than one or two packs of newborn diapers . Its possible your baby will outgrow them within the first few weeks or even skip them entirely and go straight into Size 1 after birth. What might be a better option? Ask for sizes your little one will quickly grow into.

Remember: Diaper sizes are based on the weight, not the age of the baby. Heres a look at diaper sizes for Huggies Little Snugglers, for example:

  • Preemie: Up to 5 lbs
  • Newborn: Up to 9 lbs
  • Size 1: 8 – 14 lbs
  • Size 2: 12 – 18 lbs
  • Size 3: 16 – 28 lbs
  • Size 4: 22 – 37 lbs

Tip #2: Consider babys growth rate

If you have limited space, the bulk of your diaper collection should be for sizes 1 and 2. These diapers generally fit babies up to 18 pounds, depending on the brand.

If you have the storage, register for Size 3, as well, which should take you through your babys first birthday.
