Sleepers Save The Day And Night

How many clothes do you ACTUALLY need for your baby? | Newborn Capsule Wardrobe (0-3 Months)

Sleepers are the staple of baby clothes. And they are good for more than just sleeping! Little Fox wears sleepers when we are going out on errands, when I dont have the energy to change her before church, or when we are headed to Babas house. They are good for easy baby changes, not having to go over babys head, and because they cover the whole body. For the first six months of Little Foxs life, she basically only wore sleepers. Little Badger was born just before summer though, and mainly wore onsies.

Sample Baby Clothing Registry

This list breaks down the standard number of clothing items youll want on hand for your newborns wardrobe. Weve also included items to add specifically for summer and winter babies and a few things for special occasions.

Seven Bodysuits or Rompers

Bodysuits can serve as an easy, no-fuss outfit in summer or a basic layer in winter and come in both long- and short-sleeve styles. With seven, if you wash a couple of loads a week, youll always have clean ones on hand.

Tip: Add a kimono-style bodysuit or two for baby to wear until their umbilical cord falls off, usually around one to two weeks after theyre born.

How Many Clothes Does A Baby Need In The First Year

I feel like Im starting to sound a bit like a broken record here. Baby clothes are fine. Baby clothes are great. But for the most part, a lot of the current baby clothes for sale arent practical or necessary.

As your baby begins to get older , its a good time to start introducing other clothing items into their daily life.

A light jacket, shoes , more socks, some cute little jeans and more shirts and pants. Still stick with the onesies as they arent out of that diaper phase yet, and wont be for quite some time.

Again, I think part of the biggest problem that we all face when trying to get clothes for our baby is that we tend to buy based on emotions and impulse.

Those two things combined can be quite costly. Keep it simple and just go with the basics. Your bank account and storage space in your house will thank you.

Season And Climate Help Determine Clothes A New Baby Needs

Depending on the time of year and the climate in which you live will help determine what clothes your new baby needs. For instance, both of my babies were born in the summer so they lived in onesies and single body pieces for the first several months. If you live in a cool climate or your baby is born in winter you may need some warmer clothing.

How To Wash Newborn Clothes

You can wash baby clothes with the rest of your laundry, but try to avoid usingstrong detergents and fabric softeners. Laundry detergents labelled sensitive or gentle are less likely to irritate your babys skin.

Clothes with poo on them need to be soaked in nappy sanitiser before washing. Nappy sanitiser also makes a handy pre-soak once your baby is eating solids even with a bib, your babys clothes will get covered in food and drink.

When Should You Buy Baby Clothes

When should I start shopping for baby?

We had over 70% of the baby clothes ready for the first year BEFORE she came home. That way we could set up a clothing organization system and all of the clothes were put away.

I highly recommend preparing as much as you can before the baby arrives.

Once the baby comes home, you will have little time to do anything other than take care of the baby.

How Many Shirts Do I Need

We used a grand total of zero shirts during the first six months of Little Foxs life. And same with Little Badger. After introducing solids, we have used a shirt once or twice as a bib over-top a onesie. We also used a shirt once because the colour matched the Feast Day we were celebrating at church. While your little one is crawling, shirts just ride up. Those are just a few reasons why shirts are inconvenient before your baby learns to walk. I recommend having just a few on hand

HOW MUCH CLOTHES DO YOU REALLY NEED FOR YOUR BABY? | HOW MANY BABY CLOTHES DO I NEED IN EACH SIZE

I have super strong feelings about when you should buy baby things. This is the part of becoming a parent that people tend to go overboard with, and waste hundreds of dollars on.

And I get it. I really do.

Ive been where you are. Walking up and down the aisles at the store and seeing all the pink, blues, and yellowsthe cute dresses, the adorable tiny tuxes, the ladybug print shirts, and the dinosaur-themed pants. Ive seen them all.

Ive been tempted by them all.

And guess what? I left every single one of them on the rack.

AND IT WAS HARD. SO HARD.

So many people bust their budget for their baby before hes even born. If youre truly interested in how many clothes you should buy before your baby is born, I suggest having enough clothes on hand for 2 weeks of life and, if your budget is really tight buying them in 0-3 months instead of newborn.

Yes, theres a good chance your baby will be swim in them, but honestly, thats ok and you KNOW youll get use out of them even if your baby is on the big side.

Youll be changing the clothing of your baby at least once per day so plan on having enough shirts/onesies/pants on hand that you dont have to stop everything to do laundry because you ran out in a matter of 2 days.

Keep your clothing choices simple and user-friendly because youre going to be changing, unsnapping, and removing clothes off your baby multiple times per day.

How Many Onesies Should I Buy For A Newborn

Despite the season, at least three onesies can be bought in a newborn size. Then, it is better to opt for 0-3 size. Remember that onesies with built-in footies should have sufficient length so that not to prevent your baby from movements. Still wondering how many onesies do I need, buy three pieces.

Newborn Baby Clothes Checklist

This newborn baby clothes checklist is completely minimalist! This is the absolute bare minimum that you need for your newborn baby that will keep you going until your baby is three months old.

When it comes to the style of babygro that you get, the onesies that fasten up with poppers tend to be cheaper than ones that do up with a zip. But the ones that do up with a zip are much easier to deal with in the middle of the night.

Consider buying one of two onesies that do up with a zip and have the rest with poppers.

This checklist features a pramsuit in size 0-3 months only. This is because it doesnt matter so much that it will be too big in the early weeks as your baby will only wear it for travel, not for rolling round on the floor.

The numbers here are assuming you will do more than one load of washing per week.

If you prefer to stick to just a one or two loads of washing a week, and you do not have a tumble dryer to speed up drying the clothes, buy a couple of additional vests and babygros to the newborn list so that you have at least one for every day plus a couple of extras on the 0-3 months checklist.

Ive stuck to all-in-one outfits to keep it simple here. This means you dont need to buy socks for the first few months. Trust me, they tend to just be pulled off of babys feet anyway!

  • Pramsuit. If your baby has reflux after being born where they are being sick frequently, you may want to buy a spare pramsuit just in case.

How Many Onesies Do I Need

How many baby clothes do I need? My minimalist baby ...

During the first six months, Little Fox only wore onesies under her dresses when we went to church. Even then, sometimes we put the dress over her sleepers. These are a lot harder to put on and take off, which is why we didnt use them often. Once your baby can sit up on their own onesies become a bit more practical. However, if it is hot out, onesies replace sleepers as a staple clothing item . For the younger ages especially, try and get ones that button in the front instead of going over the head.

We tend to go through four onesies a day now that Little Fox is over six months and eating solids. If we stick to non-messy foods, one in a day will work out as well. During the summer months Little Fox is using onesies as her pajamas as well. Onesies are also a lot more stylish than sleepers, so we are enjoying a couple extra baby home photo-shoots.

Essential Baby Clothes From The First 3 Months To 1 Year

As a first time mom or dad, its easy to buy lots of adorable baby clothing only to find out its unusable or impractical.

I certainly did. My first purchase was this cute baby fleece onesie for 6-12 month olds.

My daughter was born in the winter time so I thought I was planning ahead. By the time that winter rolled around and an occasion came up where she could wear it, it was too small for her. She didnt end up wearing it once!

This is one of the biggest regrets you often hear from moms and dads that they purchased too many newborn clothes.

Related: Heres a post about the biggest money mistakes moms make.

They get a whole wardrobe many pieces in each size for their little one. They end up with several pieces that are only worn 1 or 2 times or still have the tags on when their baby outgrows it.

The first year, especially the first 0-3 months, are unpredictable and involve a lot of learnings when it comes to clothing.

This is because:

  • You dont know what size the baby will be when it comes. You could have a premie or a large baby requiring different size clothing.
  • You dont know how the baby will grow. Your baby could have a huge growth spurt and only be in one clothing size for 1-2 weeks or skip it altogether.

At the same time, newborns spit up and have poop explosions all the time. Youll need to have enough clothes so youre not doing laundry multiple times a day.

Ok So How Many Of These Should I Have

The real answer is that it depends on what you like, which youre probably sick of hearing. How on earth can you possibly know what youll like until youre in the thick of it? And its not like you can just run out to Target the minute shes born to shop for her size.

The amount of onesies and footie jammies youll need also depends on the weather, and things like cloth diapering. If youre using cloth diapers , youll be doing laundry every day or every other day , so you wont need as many clothes.

The amount youll need also depends on your stain tolerance. We dont mind stains, especially on jammies, but every family is different. Plus, I havent met a stain I couldnt get rid of by putting the onesie out in the sun for a few hours. Its like magic.

While I really do feel that theres no right or wrong answer, you came here for numbers so Ill do my best. A lot of moms recommend stashing 3 newborn sized things and 10 items from all of the other sizes up to a year. 10 seems like a lot to me, especially for the larger sizes. Keep in mind the smaller sizes will be used for much less time since babys growth will probably slow down after 6 months.

Id say rather than stockpiling a horde of random jammies, get a minimal amount of things you really love youll probably never reach for the other stuff.
