For babies, safe sleep means lying flat on the back with no blankets heavier than a hospital receiving blanket. There should be no stuffed animals in the crib. Do not use crib bumpers, pillows or any type of cushions for propping up your baby not even items marketed to help babies sleep better.
How Much Do Premature Babies Sleep
Preterm infants can spend up to 90% of each day asleep. Although most infants younger than three months old tend to sleep between 16 and 17 hours per day, parents of preterm infants should expect their baby to sleep longer. Preterm infants are also more likely to act drowsy rather than alert when they are not sleeping.
Parents of preterm babies shouldn’t compare their baby’s sleeping habits to those of full-term babies. Instead, they should discuss their specific circumstances with a doctor if they have concerns.
Put Baby To Sleep When He Is Awake

Babies from 0 to 3 months might start showing tired signs after 30 minutes of being awake.
From 3 to 6 months, they might be tired after 1.5 to 3 hours of being awake.
Tired signs for these age groups can include:

When Do Babies Sleep Through The Night
Sleeping through the night doesn’t have a strict definition. However, people often say a baby sleeps through the night when the baby sleeps for six to eight hours at night , without waking up, in addition to daytime naps. By six months of age, roughly 62% of babies sleep for six or more uninterrupted hours at night. By one year of age, that percentage climbs, with around 72% of one-year-old babies sleeping for six or more uninterrupted hours at night.
Its important not to push your baby to sleep through the night too early. Prior to three months of age, virtually all babies sleep in three- to four-hour blocks of time , without regard to whether it’s daytime or nighttime. Around three months, some babies begin to do more of their sleeping at night, but this sleep is still interrupted.
Also, keep in mind that your night of sleep and your baby’s night are different. If you put your baby down to sleep and they sleep through the night uninterrupted, they will still likely wake up while you are sleeping. For example, with an 8 p.m. bedtime, six hours of uninterrupted sleep leads to a 2 a.m. wake time.

As a result, they start sleeping for longer periods of time at night and shorter periods during the day. On average, one-month old infants sleep 5.7 hours each night and three-month olds sleep 7.4 hours, though this is normally non-continuous sleep.
Parents can help their babies sleep longer at night by exposing them to more light during the day time during the first three months of life. Similarly, dimming the lights at night and maintaining quiet hours may also help babies begin to sleep more at night than during the day.
