How To Use Ergobaby Omni 360 Newborn

Ergobaby Omni 360 Is Adjustable From Newborn

How Do I Use The Omni 360 Baby Carrier? | Ergobaby

The adjustable body panel means the Ergobaby Omni 360 doesnt need Ergobabys characteristic duvet-like newborn insert Youll be cooler, baby will be cooler, and its much easier to ensure baby is in a good, safe position with their airways supported. It is safety tested as suitable from 7lbs . But like most buckled carriers, youll get a more optimum fit once baby is around 9lbs+, or once the body panel comes no higher than the bottom of babys ears.

Top tip: For babies who are only a few weeks old, youll need to ensure youre wearing the waistband high up on your torso, with your babys bottom seated in the bucket-shaped base of the carrier otherwise the body panel will feel too big for them.

Its as good and, dare we say it, perhaps a smidgen better for newborns as the Ergobaby Adapt: The base of the carrier will go even narrower due to the position of the Velcro tabs, and overall it has a slightly narrower body panel than the Adapt, due to its 360-style hourglass shape.

Design And What It’s Like To Use

The Ergobaby 360 carrier shouldn’t be used until your baby is at least four months old and 12 pounds, although you can buy a to use the carrier sooner. There’s also an adjustable head support flap on the carrier that you can have in the highest position for an infant. But always check with your pediatrician first to see if your child is old enough or big enough for a carrier.

Once your baby has control of their head movements, there are four different carrying positions front facing outward, front-facing in, hip, and back. Be careful not to put younger babies in the outward-facing position for very long because they can get overstimulated very easily. The back carry position is convenient when Ellie wants to be held, but I need to use the oven or stove this way, I’m able to safely cook without worrying about her getting burned.

No matter what position I have Ellie in, the Ergobaby 360 is comfortable for both of us. The International Hip Dysplasia Institute has deemed the carrier to be safe for babies’ hips it’s important to make sure your baby’s legs form an “M” shape in any structured carrier to support proper hip development.

Once you get the hang of getting your baby in and out of carriers, the Ergobaby 360 is easy to use.

Some other specs of the Ergobaby 360 include:

  • Suitable for babies and toddlers 12 to 45 pounds
  • ErgoPromise lifetime guarantee
  • Privacy hood to shield from elements
  • Machine washable

Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh Baby Carrier Review

Latest deals from trusted retailers

In a nutshell

The multi award-winning Ergobaby carriers are a popular choice for parents across the globe. The Ergobaby Original brought ergonomic baby carriers to the masses in the early noughties and highlighted the importance of supporting a babys hips in the M position. It was also one of the first to follow the TICKS guidelines for carrying babies.

Since then the brand has brought out a variety of different carriers. The Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh is pitched as Ergobabys most versatile one yet, combining the adjustability of the Ergobaby Adapt , the additional outward-facing option of the 360 and the breathability of the Cool Air.

Like the 360, the Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh can be worn in four positions. However, its worth noting that the 360 is available in a lot more colours and patterns, which may be more appealing to fashionable-conscious baby wearers. A benefit to the Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh, however, is that no newborn insert is needed so youre not spending extra money and theres less chance that your little one will overheat.

How Is The Breeze Different To The Ergobaby Omni 360 And The Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh

The Breeze has basically all the same features and functions as the other two Omni baby carriers. Its almost identical to the Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh.BUT it has a few subtle improvements:

  • Made from SoftFlex fabric, so the whole carrier feels slightly softer and lighter, while still being breathable for baby
  • Body panel has a more streamlined shape, making it look and feel a little neater
  • Less bulky, more contoured shoulder straps are sewn at a slightly different angle, offering a better fit for petite mums who may otherwise struggle with the bulk and heftiness of the other Omnis
  • These contoured straps also stop them from eating/digging into your armpits, especially for broader and curvier parents
  • Subtle reflective safety strips on the front and back of the carrier
  • Additional side pockets integrated into the waistband

Any downsides?

Our Analysis And Test Results

ErgoBaby was started by a mother, Karin Frost, in 2002 when she couldn’t find a great baby carrier she liked. Wanting to keep her little one close she tried several different carriers but couldn’t find one that was both comfortable and ergonomic. The soft structured carrier provides freedom to enjoy all of life’s adventures while keeping your baby close. Ergobaby now produces 30 different carriers in 5 different categories including Swaddlers for newborns. Ergobaby is located in Los Angeles and sells in more than 700 retailers in the US and over 50 countries.

The Cool Air Mesh Versions

The Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh and the new Omni Breeze are perfect for warmer climates, and for year-round use. Rather than the usual cotton canvas fabric body panel, these versions are made from soft, breathable mesh fabric. Which is really rather lovely, and makes your baby feel even more cuddleable while youre carrying them! The increased airflow will help your baby keep cool.

The only other key difference in features is the slide adjusters on the front of the carrier, which make it REALLY easy to optimise the carrier for parent-facing and outward facing positions, without having to fiddle with buttons.

Omni Breeze At A Glance

The Omni Breeze is suitable for newborns, has a weight capacity of 20kgs and offers all four carry positions parent facing, world facing, hip and back carry. I would say that you could reasonably use the Omni Breeze until 2 years or beyond, especially if youre using it in the back carry position.

As you would expect from an Ergobaby carrier, the Omni Breeze is ergonomically designed for both parent and baby.

For Parents, the shape and structure is designed to evenly distribute Babys weight across your body without putting excessive pressure on your back or shoulders. It has a wide supportive waistband and lumbar support, and padded shoulder straps. You can also easily cross the straps at the back if you prefer a tighter fit, especially if you have narrow or sloping shoulders.

For Baby, the Omni Breeze provides knee to knee support in the optional M leg positioning from birth through to babyhood and beyond. Essentially this means Babys knees are elevated higher than their bottom to ensure a more natural seated position in the carrier rather than legs hanging straight down. This is recognised as a healthier hip position for Baby.

Also, the Omni Breeze is easy to use and with a little practice, parents are able to put Baby in and take Baby out of the carrier on their own, even on the go.

The Ergobaby Omni 360 Will Fit A Toddler

Ergobaby Omni 360 with a Newborn

The Omni 360s body panel gets wider and taller . This means will last until baby is around 2 years old. Its safety tested all the way to 33lbs , but remember a comfy fit is determined by babys height, your shape and both of your carrying preferences, rather than just your baby or toddlers weight.

Whats The Difference Between The Ergobaby 360 And Omni

As you can see in the table above, there are 6 differences between the two Ergobaby Carriers the weight/ age suitability, need for an infant insert, shoulder straps, storage, design, and price.

The 2 key differences lie in the Ergobaby 360 being suitable for babies 4 months to 48 months and needing an infant insert for younger or smaller babies, while the Omni can be readily used for newborns without needing an infant insert.

Who Would The Carrier Be Most Useful For

This comfortable and lightweight carrier will be ideal for parents who enjoy long walks and hikes and dont want the hassle of using a pushchair on tough terrains. Its also great for everyday tasks like popping round to the corner shop or for longer journeys where you may need to get public transport and would prefer to leave the buggy at home.

Omni 360 Cool Mesh Vs Omni Breeze

There are a few key updates between the Omni Breeze and Omni 360:

  • Lighter weight materials. The Omni Breeze weighs less than the Omni 360.
  • Improved breathability. Perfect for summer or active parents.
  • Softer and more flexible material. Making it easier to get a snug fit for a newborn.
  • Higher knee positioning. Easier to achieve optimal M leg position.
  • Visually less busy front panel. More streamlined appearance.

These are all welcome upgrades with the Omni Breeze, but I will admit I was most excited about the changes to the buckles! As someone who has helped teach parents and train staff on how to use the Ergobaby Omni 360 these seemingly insignificant changes excite me.

The child-proof buckles that connect to the front of the panel that you release when crossing over the straps at the back are one thing on the Ergobaby Omni 360 that I have seen some parents struggle with the concept of the three-pronged buckle design. Whereas on the Omni Breeze its a much more obvious button release for the buckle.

Also the cinched shape on the shoulder strap buckle is much easier to feel and squeeze when releasing the buckle. This is a clever little design improvement because this buckle sits behind your neck and not everyone has the dexterity to release it behind their head.

Overall Buckled Carrier Rating

Tell Us About The Buckles

The arm strap buckles have a squeeze and lift mechanism, which needs to be done with two hands. On the back and waist, there are standard squeeze buckles that can be unbuckled with one hand. Theyre really strong and fairly easy to unfasten. Other carrier buckles can be difficult to unfasten and have even hurt my hands so I was relieved by the ease of these ones.

Cross The Shoulder Straps When Front Carrying

How Do I Fit a Newborn in the Omni 360 Baby Carrier? | Ergobaby

This means the buckles on the ends of the shoulder straps clip into the sides of the body panel: much easier than having to do up a connecting strap behind your back . This tends to make it quicker and easier to put on, and gives a more snug fit, especially for petite wearers. You can still wear it in the usual rucksack style, should you wish. Just make sure the connecting strap is well tightened so you dont end up with the shoulder straps digging into your armpits.
