Not all babies are the same, but from my experience with my own 6 newborns, babies can go through between 10 and 12 outfits every few days. This is the minimalist capsule wardrobe list Im using for my 7th newborn to make sure we have enough, but not too much! Remember this is a minimalist list.

- Less laundry to wash. Having less clothes to wash and dry means your baby has less back up clothes, so it kind of forces you to stay up on laundry.

- Less space taken up in your home. The less clothing you own, the less room needed. Fewer bins in the basement and less crowded closets!
- The less clothes you allow yourself to buy for your kids, the better for your budget.

- You can afford to buy better quality clothing that will last through more than one newborn.

Receiving blankets can be folded, wrapped, and tucked around the baby to create a swaddle . A swaddle keeps the arms close to the body but should remain roomy around the hips and legs, since too-tight swaddling can cause hip problems.
Pajamas or swaddles with snaps or two-way zippers are convenient for diaper changes after late night feedings. It’s important to make sure the fit allows for movement without excess material gathering around the face. Embellishments and fasteners that can come loose, such as buttons or pacifier clips, should not be used.

- Overalls: While theyre cute, theyre an absolute nuisance. They often involve having to manage a lot of buttons between the legs. Nobodys got time for that! The only overalls I can recommend have no pants like these adorable ones.
- Shirts : They just ride up exposing your babys belly. I dont recommend these before the age of 1 year.
- Vests: These serve no purpose. Unless theres a closure, youll likely lose it.
- Onesies specifically for the umbilical cord: I had heard that these side tie or side snap onesies are necessary until the umbilical cord separates, but we never needed them. We found the bodysuits and pajamas worked well with the umbilical cord on.
- Mittens: You shouldnt need these to prevent your baby from scratching his or herself if your tops include them.
- Jeans or corduroy pants: Jean or corduroy material is binding and babies are growing everyday. Its also just a little bit more of a headache to put on or take off because of the material, especially if it has the button closure at the top. If you want to get the jean look, get the ones with the stretchy elastic at the top, ideally with the fake jean material like these ones.
