What Do I Need For A Newborn Boy

Great Things About Having A Baby Boy

Some mothers-to-be want nothing more than a daughter to call their own.

But sons are just as wonderful, loving and sweet as little girls.

Baby boys are even more adorable than you can ever imagine!

So if you are expecting a little boy , here are 10 great things about being a mother to a gorgeous little boy bearing in mind this is just for fun and not a deep and meaningful piece:

How Many Baby Gifts Should You Register For

I find that its better to register for MORE items than not. A good rule of thumb is to register for a variety of gift types in a wide range of prices and to register for two gifts per guest you expect to attend your baby shower. If you work in an office or have more than one circle of friends, you may find that you need enough items for TWO baby showers worth of guests.

The number of items doesnt matter as much as having a good variety for all the different people who may want to buy you a gift. If an item is too expensive, then several people may decide to combine funds to purchase it.

Hats With A Wide Brim

For older babies, I particularly like this UPF 50+ sun hat. During 6-9 months is when you often see babies start to crawl. With them moving around a lot, this hat has a wide brim to protect the face, but its not too huge to obstruct his or her vision.

Its light and can be easily folded for the diaper bag. It has a chin strap for windier days.

The best part is that theres an adjustable toggle so you can loosen or tighten the width of the hat so its always the perfect fit and stays on your babys head.

A Few Practical Tips For Dressing Your Newborn For Travel Home:

The Life of the Wife: Newborn Essentials Checklist
  • While your focus might be on the car ride home, remember to dress baby in something that will make life easier once you get home. Fancy is cute until you have to undress and redress a fussy or sleepy newborn.
  • Frequent diaper changes mean you will have to undo snaps or deal with complicated articles of clothing continually. So make it easy on yourself and go with something simple!
  • Bring two outfits in case you end up with a bigger baby. I had a 10 pounder, and she did not fit into many newborn outfits!
  • Onesie might work fine. But as a new mom, you will absolutely notice and cringe at the car seat straps touching their sensitive little skin, so a light pair of pants or leggings might be a helpful addition.
  • When looking for material, go for something soft and not scratchy, like cotton or bamboo.
  • Pro Mom Tip: Go for footed pants instead of pants and socks. They are so much easier to use, stay on, and keep track of!

My personal preference is an adorable long-sleeved footed onesie . This provides just enough coverage on the skin to protect against sun, wind, or chill while being light enough to help them remain comfortable . In addition, they are easy to change diapers in and can transition from car seat to arms to bassinet without issue.

Essential Baby Clothes From The First 3 Months To 1 Year

As a first time mom or dad, its easy to buy lots of adorable baby clothing only to find out its unusable or impractical.

I certainly did. My first purchase was this cute baby fleece onesie for 6-12 month olds.

My daughter was born in the winter time so I thought I was planning ahead. By the time that winter rolled around and an occasion came up where she could wear it, it was too small for her. She didnt end up wearing it once!

This is one of the biggest regrets you often hear from moms and dads that they purchased too many newborn clothes.

Related: Heres a post about the biggest money mistakes moms make.

They get a whole wardrobe many pieces in each size for their little one. They end up with several pieces that are only worn 1 or 2 times or still have the tags on when their baby outgrows it.

The first year, especially the first 0-3 months, are unpredictable and involve a lot of learnings when it comes to clothing.

This is because:

  • You dont know what size the baby will be when it comes. You could have a premie or a large baby requiring different size clothing.
  • You dont know how the baby will grow. Your baby could have a huge growth spurt and only be in one clothing size for 1-2 weeks or skip it altogether.

At the same time, newborns spit up and have poop explosions all the time. Youll need to have enough clothes so youre not doing laundry multiple times a day.

In this post, Im going to include:

Essential Baby Clothes Notes

So exactly how much of each baby size should I get?

Here are some frequently asked questions:

Should I buy newborn clothes or 0-3 months? What can I anticipate to be my babys first size?

One way you can gauge this is thinking about yours and your partners baby weight when you were born. That might give you an idea of if youll have a small, average or large baby.

If you anticipate having an average size baby, having a few newborn pieces is a good idea. You dont want your baby to be drowning in the clothes and have the top possibly ride up over their head.

At the same time, as newborns grow fast, you dont want to get too many newborn sized clothing.

Note: You might think that if it says 0-3 months, the newborn size would be within this range, but there is a difference.

How long will 0-3 month clothes last?

Some people say 0-3 month clothing lasts 1-4 months. On average, my baby lasted in 0-3 month clothing for 3 months.

That said just because a baby is 3 months old doesnt mean theyll necessarily fit 3 month old clothing. They might be in 6 month old clothing. They might be in 0-3 month old clothing.

This just gives you an average frame of reference for the remaining baby sizes.

How many outfits do babies go through a day?

It varies from baby to baby, but it would be around 1-4 per day. I think around 2-3 is the average.

The younger the baby, the higher the number per day.

How many baby clothes do I need in each size?

You should consider factors like:

Seven Bodysuits or Rompers

Bodysuits can serve as an easy, no-fuss outfit in summer or a basic layer in winter and come in both long- and short-sleeve styles. With seven, if you wash a couple of loads a week, youll always have clean ones on hand.

Tip: Add a kimono-style bodysuit or two for baby to wear until their umbilical cord falls off, usually around one to two weeks after theyre born.

Baby Clothes A Size Guide

5 Things You Need To Know About Having A Baby Boy

When putting this information together, I gathered information straight from the experts from mums and dads with new babies. As well as being based on my own experiences as a parent, I thought of what would have been useful to know, prior to buying clothes for my baby.

An approximate Australian baby size guide is as follows:

0000 Newborns under 4kg birth to 3 months000 Babies under 6 kg 3 months to 6 months00 Babies between 6 and 8 kgs 6 months to 9 months0 Babies above 8 kgs 9 months to 12 months1 Babies above 10kgs 12 months

Bear in mind that the sizes above are a guide only. Some babies when born will fit straight into 000s, some will need 0000s. Something else to remember is that all the clothing sizes differ based on manufacturer. For example, Bonds sizes tend to be on the smaller side, so you may find that you are buying Bonds clothing one size up compared to what you would buy in other brands.
