  • Diapers, as per their size, along with diaper disposal bags.
  • Baby wipes
  • Feeding formula, in case you feed the baby with the prepared milk
  • Milk Bottle to store milk. Milk bottles can store breastmilk for up to 2 hours. Keep them correctly bolted to avoid their spoilage. Better to have separate water bottles for water and milk.
  • Sanitizers: go for sanitisers that are alcohol-free to prevent any allergic reaction on the baby’s skin.
  • Thermos to warm the milk. Mostly, babies prefer to gulp milk that is near to their body temperatures.
  • Such tiny babies are still prone to allergies and infections. Better to seek advice for the medicines that you may need for your baby.
  • Skincare essentials that are soft on his skin.

After your hospital bag has everything for you, then move on to the essentials for baby.

  • A car seat. If youre driving home, this is non-negotiablethey wont let you take your baby home from the hospital without a car seat, and it should be already installed.
  • A going-home outfit. Pack two different outfits in different sizes because you dont know how big or small your baby will be! Aim for one outfit in newborn size and one 0-3 months. Dont forget hats and/or socks, if weather appropriate.
  • Your pediatricians contact information. The doctors and nurses will ask you for this information several times, so its good to have it handy. Include the email or fax number for the pediatricians office so they can easily forward your babys medical records.
  • Bottles, if youre using. If you plan to bottle-feed from the get go, pack at least two for the hospital. If you plan to formula feed, pack some of your preferred brand, as well, though the hospital will most likely have samples for you.
  • Do not bring diapers or wipes! The hospital has all the diapers and wipes youll need. In fact, one Babylist parent suggested bringing an extra bag for all the freebies youll bring home from hospital.

For 6 Months And Older:

As your baby gets older, their needs will change. Theyll tend to need a lot more items as they grow, but at least they wont need to have as frequent feedings. Here is what to pack in a diaper bag for an older baby:

Everything mentioned above, plus:

1. Bibs/Disposable bibs

After 6 months, your baby will start eating solids. This may mean more of a mess so a bib is necessary. I love disposable bibs when eating out because you dont have to worry about throwing a dirty bib back in your diaper bag. You already have enough to clean up when youre out to eat so these can just be thrown away instead of having more to clean up. These bibs even have a little catch tray at the bottom for all the food that falls.

2. Placemats/Disposable placemats

The best mom hacks are ones that help with clean up. These placemats ensure that your baby has a clean surface to eat off of when youre out and you just get to pick it up and throw it away when youre done. No extra clean up!

Theres no question that babies love to snack. Keep some pouches and oat bars handy and keep them in your bag in case your little one needs a snack.

4. Sippy cup

Your child may need some water in between feedings so make sure you have a sippy cup or baby water bottle handy.

5. Books

6. Small interactive light-up toy

Keep your baby entertained with something like this cell phone toy. This will keep my daughters attention for a while now that shes a little older. Always good to have things on hand to occupy them.

What Should You Pack In A Diaper Bag For Everyday Outings

Once you bring your baby home from the hospital, youll want to repack your diaper bag, and then repack it before every outing. Here are some things to have inside your diaper bag:

  • Diapers
  • Food for baby
  • Bibs
  • Small extra sacks or wet bag
  • Extra pacifier and binky clip
  • Extra lightweight blanket
  • Snacks and water
  • Wallet
  • Small makeup or toiletry bag for personal care items.

As your baby gets older, what you put in your diaper bag changes. Take for instance some parents swap out a baby wrap for a structured front baby carrier once their child is around 6 months old and has good head control, so they can hold their baby but have their hands free to shop. Just remember to consider your babys age, stage, and every scenario you may encounter and then pack accordingly so youre prepared no matter what happens while youre out.

Any mom out there knows that packing a diaper bag is an art. Diaper bags after all, are basically just mini, on-the-go, command centers, am I right? Right.

To be honest, it can be a little overwhelming. You want to be sure that the diaper bag is well packed with all the essentials, but not over packed such that its too bulky and heavy to even be practical. And of course, it must be organized well enough to actually get to the thing you need when you need it because nobody has time to dump the whole bag just to find the wipes.

Before having our littlest, I had mostly gotten out of the habit of carrying a properly packed diaper bag. I simply made sure to have some snacks, an extra diaper, and some wipes in my own bag and we were good to go.

But, now that Ive got both a toddler and a little one in tow these days, I have once again had to learn the art of packing a diaper bag. And today, Im sharing with you just whats in my diaper bag for the boys.
