How Many Diapers Per Day By Age Chart
Here in the following chart, we have discussed how many diapers your baby may require on daily and monthly bases.
|Age Of The Baby|
|9 to 12 months old baby||8 diapers||240 diapers|
Above-mentioned diaper usage is an average usage of a baby of a particular age. However, it may vary slightly in all the babies.
% Of Disposable Diapers Will Ultimately Get Buried In Landfills
Its estimated that 3.6 million tonnes of disposable diaper waste will end up in landfills. 99% of disposable diapers contents make their way to solid waste streams along with household and commercial trash.
One of the main problems is untreated sewage and solid waste, which will create a potentially unhealthy situation and pose a potential health concern for sanitation workers.
Unless there is a dramatic change in public policy or the direction of waste management services, most single-use diapers will continue to be landfilled or burned.
|Size 4||22 37 lbs|
Luckily, babies certainly do follow averages some of the time. Once your little one is on the scale, which will happen at every wellness check, youll have a better idea of how soon youll need to start stocking up on that next size up.
As I mentioned earlier, Im looking at it through the lens of median averages and in the same manner that your doctor will read out on babys weight.
This is called the percentile, which compares your baby at any given time to the averages of other babies at the same age.
Heres what age to weight looks like at the median , according to the CDC:
How Many Cloth Diapers Do You Need
If you want to do cloth diapering, youll probably still need diapers on reserve, even if you plan on running the wash cycle every day. Some parents who use cloth diapers choose to use disposables for the first month, simply because newborns go through so many per day.
But if you do want to invest in newborn cloth sizes, have at least 20 on hand . Keep in mind, your baby may not fit into these for long.
How often you plan on doing laundry influences the amount of cloth diapers youll need to have on hand. Most families like to have 24 cloth diapers total, but you could get away with as few as 14 if you absolutely needed to .
Whether you opt for disposable or cloth diapers, you might not know what works best on your baby right away. And thats okay: Youll figure it out through a bit of trial and error. Get a feel for what you and your baby like by adding a variety of diaper brands and sizes to your registry and then experimenting once your little one arrives.

When To Change A Newborns Diaper
Still, changing diapers around the clock may leave you feeling as though thatâs all youâre doing. Try not to let diaper changes consume your daily routine simply be mindful of when your baby’s diaper may be wet or dirty.
Another great time to change your newbornâs diaper is before or during feedings. If youâre breastfeeding, as you switch from one breast to the other, take the time to check her diaper, and change it if needed.
If youâre bottle-feeding, check her diaper right before you give her the bottle. After sheâs done with the bottle, you can check again if sheâs hasnât fallen asleep. If she has gone to sleep, then thereâs no need to wake her unless you feel sheâs overly wet or she has a poopy diaper.
Disposable Wipe Usage: First Year
With diaper changes, you’ll only be using one diaper per change. But, you’ll likely use several wipes for each diaper change if it is a “number 2.” This means you’ll use exponentially more wipes than diapers and explains why you get more wipes in a pack. In baby’s first year you can expect to use nearly 5,000 wipes or two per diaper. This breakdown of wipe usage gives you an idea of how many wipes your baby will use in the first year:

Wet Diapers In The First Week Of Life
Breastfeeding moms are often more concerned about wet diapers than moms who bottle-feed. It’s easier to tell that the baby is getting enough to eat when you’re giving a bottle. When you’re breastfeeding, however, it can be a little more difficultespecially in the first few days while your supply of breast milk is increasing.
Counting wet diapers is a great way to help you feel more confident that your baby is getting what they need. Here’s how many wet diapers to expect during the first week for babies who breastfeed and those who take a bottle.

Here’s a size guide to estimate how many diapers you’ll needbut remember to take it with a grain of salt, since every baby is different. Also note that as diaper sizes increase, you’ll generally get fewer diapers per box. For example, you can expect to get 164 diapers in a size 1 box, but only 136 diapers in a size 3 box.
Premie : Generally, only babies born prematurely need this diaper size. There’s no way to predict whether your baby will be born earlyand what size they will beso plan to purchase these diapers as needed.
Newborn : Young babies grow fast, so they’ll graduate from newborn diapers after a few weeks. Plan to go through about eight-12 diapers per day, which equates to about one or two boxes . Note that many parents receive newborn diapers from the hospital too.
Size 1 : Most babies need size 1 diapers until 4 months of age, and they’ll soil about 8-10 diapers each day. Therefore parents can plan to buy around three to four boxes, based on 164 diapers per box.
Size 2 : These are commonly used by babies 3 to 8 months old, who produce eight or nine dirty diapers each day. Expect to buy anywhere from three to five boxes, with 142 diapers in each one.
Size 7 : Some brands, such as Pampers, also make size 7 diapers for older toddlers. Once your child reaches 41 pounds, gauge the situation and buy these diapers accordingly.

I know from experience you dont want to be washing cloth diapers every day trust me. Washing your diapers every 2-3 days is whats generally recommended, to avoid issues like ammonia, mold, and mildew . Some people choose to wash their diapers once a week.
When you decide how often you plan to wash diapers, multiply your daily diaper amount by the number of days between washes to get a rough idea of how many diapers youll need. Then add one extra days worth of diapers, so youll have diapers for the day youre doing your washing.

Is Baby Getting Enough Milk
Weight gain:Normal newborns may lose up to 7% of birth weight in the first few days. After moms milk comes in, the average breastfed baby gains 6 oz/week . Take baby for a weight check at the end of the first week or beginning of the second week. Consult with babys doctor and your lactation consultant if baby is not gaining as expected.
Dirty diapers:In the early days, baby typically has one dirty diaper for each day of life . After day 4, stools should be yellow and baby should have at least 3-4 stools daily that are the size of a US quarter or larger. Some babies stool every time they nurse, or even more oftenthis is normal, too. The normal stool of a breastfed baby is loose and may be seedy or curdy.
Wet diapers:In the early days, baby typically has one wet diaper for each day of life . Once moms milk comes in, expect 5-6+ wet diapers every 24 hours. To feel what a sufficiently wet diaper is like, pour 3 tablespoons of water into a clean diaper. A piece of tissue in a disposable diaper will help you determine if the diaper is wet.
